Building Inclusion from the Earliest Years

At its heart, the program recognizes that the earliest years of life are critical. By identifying developmental needs early and providing tailored support, we are ensuring that children are not left behind but instead are prepared to thrive in school and in life.
In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, children with disabilities often face barriers that prevent them from accessing quality education. To address this challenge, a new project is being implemented in two blocks of district Ganderbal, targeting children aged 3 to 16 years. The initiative is designed to provide customized educational support that responds to the unique needs of each child, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of learning.
At the heart of the project is a commitment to inclusive and sustainable development. Each block has been provided an assistant educator who works closely under the guidance of a special educator. Together, they are required to deliver personalized educational assistance, helping children build confidence, acquire essential skills, and thrive academically and socially. This structure ensures that specialized expertise is paired with hands-on support, creating a nurturing environment for children with diverse learning needs.
Beyond direct educational support, the project emphasizes capacity building and infrastructure improvement. The project also covers the strengthening of local systems and resources to create a lasting change that extends beyond the immediate beneficiaries. Teachers, families, and communities have been engaged in awareness and training programs, fostering a culture of inclusion and respect. Improved facilities and accessible learning environments have been created to ensure that children with disabilities participate fully in education.
