Lack of infrastructure, facilities and coaches drive the volleyball enthusiasts away from the game. The UT of Jammu & Kashmir has not yet produced any player of note to represent the UT internationally. Even at National level Jammu & Kashmir unit has regrettably not brought any laurels to the state. As part of the HCL Foundations “Sports for Change” initiative, school students including the students with disabilities were allowed to showcase their sports talent at National level. The teams were selected after trials at the school level. The selected players went through district and regional level competition. After the district level competition, coaches and facilities helped teams to prepare the Ntionals. Coaches also focused on improving life skills of players like self discipline, respect for others such as friends, family, punctuality, teamwork and healthy living. Those selected after the regional competition got to play Nationals in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The Team brought the laurels to the state by winning the final. It was a big moment for the players as it was for the first time that a team from Jammu & Kashmir won such a title.
