Prosthetics & Orthotics

Prosthetics and Orthotics enable people with physical impairments or functional limitations to live healthy, productive, independent and dignified lives and participate in education, the labour market and social life.

The Prostheses and Orthotics unit is the bedrock on which the whole pedestal of Hope Disability Centre is built. The department holds tremendous significance as insurgency rendered people disabled in numbers. In P&O department new limbs are fabricated by our expert staff and are passed on to those in need with subsequent treatment and regular follow up. The expert technicians manufacture both types of prostheses
1 Functional and cosmetic upper limb prostheses.
2 Functional and cosmetic lower limb prostheses.
Our experts assess each patient’s individual needs and custom design Orthoses and Prostheses to meet those needs. An orthotics is an orthopedic brace while prosthesis is an artificial limb.

Mental Health

Treatment and care for mental health are provided to beneficiaries at our centre by experts. The environment and level or type of care will depend on multiple factors, including the nature and severity of a person’s mental condition, physical health, and the type of treatment prescribed or indicated. Following developmental disorders are treated in this facility.

Autism

It is a condition that impacts a person’s ability to perceive and socialize with others, causing difficulties in social interaction and communication.
There is no remedy for this condition; however, treatment options are available. If autism is detected early, the intervention can help improve behavior, skills, and language. Intervention is helpful at any age. Children with this disorder don’t usually outgrow symptoms, but they may learn to function well.
We have a team of trained doctors who identify children with this disorder and devise a treatment plan for them which is later implemented by the team. We have a centre with modern amenities for providing services to such children.

Intellectual Disabilities:

Due to the absence of any well-rounded treatment centre for people suffering from intellectual disabilities in our area, patients suffering from such disorder travel to far-off places for treatment. To fill the gap caused by the non-availability of such a centre in our district, we have set up a facility where services are given to patients by highly trained doctors, therapists, and counselors to support such people.
Intellectual Disability is typified by limited intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior that originates before age 22.
It is a lifelong condition; however, patients improve their functioning in due course.
The treatment is customised around identifying the strengths and needs of a person and support provided for functioning and additional conditions.
Most of these services allow someone with Intellectual Disability to function normally in society.

Psychosocial counselling :

Counselling is a supportive relationship that helps a person to cope with some aspects of his/her life. The purpose of counseling is to empower people to acknowledge and understand their problems so that they can reduce/solve them. It is interpersonal communication through which a person is helped to asses his/her current situation, explore his/her feelings, and arrive at a solution to cope with the problem.

Building capacity of Grass root level workersTrainings (Technical & Non Technical) of grass root level workers are conducted off and on to build their capacities. The services of experts from outside are hired; similarly, teams from the main office are also deputed for these trainings. These trainings are held in keeping with the national and international standards so that our staff and workers from health and the Department of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) are up to date with the modern and latest ways of treatment of our beneficiaries.
