Sports for change

(Breaking barriers)

Sports for Change (SFC) aims to create an ecosystem that challenges social norms, nurtures grassroots talent, and fulfils aspirations.

She Hope Society for Women Entrepreneurs, supported by the HCL Foundation, organized a state-level selection event for the "Sports for Change" initiative, which promotes sports and inclusivity. Teams selected after the district-level trials participated in the state-level selection trials. The event took place at the Government Physical College of Education in Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir. Athletes from six districts showcased their skills in various sports disciplines, including carrom, cricket, volleyball, football, badminton, chess, long jump, and 60 and 600-metre runs. The selected athletes represent the state at the national level, providing them with a platform to showcase their sports abilities. The Assistant Development Commissioner, Ganderbal and the Joint Director of Kashmir Youth Services and Sports attended the event. The Department of Youth and Sports, Jammu & Kashmir, the District Administration, Ganderbal, the HCL Foundation, and Bal Raksha Bharat Save the Children collaborated to make the event possible. The Executive Director of She Hope Society highlighted the initiative's empowerment aspect, aimed at uplifting athletes from marginalized communities. Representatives from the HCL Foundation and officials reiterated the purpose of the "Sports for Change" initiative, which provides opportunities for children from underserved areas to demonstrate their abilities on a national platform. The event was not just a competition but a celebration of sports as a medium for positive change. It highlighted the role of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, and excellence among the youth. The trials were also a testament to the inclusive nature of sports, providing equal opportunities for boys and girls to showcase their talents. Honoring the winning teams and recognizing the hard work and dedication of all participants, the prize distribution ceremony brought a moment of pride and joy as medals and certificates of participation were presented. The event concluded with the distribution of refreshments, adding a note of camaraderie and festivity to the day's proceedings. This initiative has made a positive impact on more than 21,000 athletes and has granted 113 sports scholarships, offering hope to aspiring sports talents.
